Professional photographer

Since the beginning of the 90s, I have been multiplying contracts, both for the media and fashion magazines, and for artists, actors and musicians. Mhe career begins with the realization of artist's portrait for the newspaper Voir de Québec ( Patrick Huard, The Respectable, Paul Ohl, etc). Dn addition, I am a photographer assigned to accompany Mcgill University researchers during a stay on the island of St. Kitts in the Caribbean. I am also assistant to the culinary photographer Christian Lacroix. In 1997, I spent a few months in Miami and created portfolios for existing agencies (Elite, Ford, Next). I also collaborated on various factual magazines (7 jours, Dernière Heure - Garry Carter, Pelipe Alou) and Quebec fashion magazines (Les Ailes de la mode). I am the main photographer for Adorable magazine for a period of 5 years (Abeille et Mitsou Gélinas, Moist, Annie Pelletier...). In 1998, I officially started my company, Studio B.T. Inc. My studio and darkroom is located inside the chapel of the Good Shepherd on de la Chevrotière Street in Quebec City. At the same time, I acquire the model and actor agency Carmelli founded 10 years earlier by Marie-Hélène Fortin. I act as an artist agent and photographer, Studio B.T. is still active to this day but the modeling agency was sold to a third party in 2001. It is a photographic period focused on fashion, portraiture and advertising. Since 2005, I concentrate my work more on design and deco, I create a large clientele in this field and photograph for a period of 10 years the most beautiful decors made in la belle province. My photographs appear in several decoration magazines in Quebec and especially the Sofadeco magazine for which I worked intensely for a period of 5 years. Sporadically, I give lectures and act as a teacher during photographic workshops, I am also invited as a judge and mentor during photo contests in the Quebec City area (Société des photographes artisans de Québec - SPAQ, Laval University, Notre-Dame-De-Foy College and the Centre de formation professionnelle en photographie Maurice Barbeau).

ART

It is in 2007 that my large format minimalist works, created in the traditional 6×7 format with various 120 films, entered the world of art galleries in Quebec City. Since then,my photographs have been represented in galleries in Quebec City, Montreal, Toronto and New York. To date, a little over 300 of my photographic works are in private collections around the world.

In the spring of 2011 and for a brief period of one year, I am opening my own art gallery. Galerie-Studio Brigitte Thériault opens its doors in this magnificent space located in the historic sector of Old Quebec, at 39 Dalhousie Street. At the same time, a little before this period in 2010, with the help of three visual artists from the Quebec City area, Annie Lévesque painter, Sébastien Tardif artist and acrobat and Claire-Alexie Turcot scupteure, we create a group to found the Galerie Ni Vu Ni Cornu. The official opening of the gallery located in the historic sector of Ste-Anne De Beaupré near the Cathedral took place in the spring of 2011, the gallery is still in operation to this day... Since 2008, my photographs are regularly rented through Dimension Plus gallery in Montreal and Art Gallery of Hamilton in Toronto for television series, commercials and film productions, such as Liverpool, by Manon Briand and Café de flores, by Jean-Marc Vallée. In 2014, she will be contacted by the very famous gallery Hamburd Kennedy Photographs from New York, where she appears for a limited time of 3 years, alongside artists such as Man Ray, De Koonig, Basquiat, Warhol and others. That same year, five of her photos were nominated for the Photography Masters Cup Competition.

BT Fine Art (Photographic Film, Pentax + Various Films 120)

"It was in 1988, at the age of 14, that photography struck me as an extraordinary means of expression. At that time, photography was still sacred, the darkroom was my favorite place, the smell of the chemical baths, its tranquility and the red light, it was magic!" The BT Film Photo collections represent this lost magic, each image was taken with a traditional 6×7 pentax camera and various 120 film. "When beauty is around, life is more beautiful. Beautiful things, people, attitudes and places fascinate me and make me feel good, that's why I like to share my photographs and inspire people, as I myself have been inspired by others." "According to me, there is nothing more beautiful in art than organized chaos according to natural laws from which emerges harmony that we all look for. through my photos, i apply myself to show that every element surrounding us is a living work of art that needs to be respected and protected." I use a traditional approach: shooting slides or films mainly in 6×7 format camera. i carefully select images that are then retouched with computer programs such as photoshop allowing me to give each photo its unique flair and create a world governed by both the real and the imaginary.

Exhibitions & Distinctions :

2018- April to June, Unis Vert L'Art presents the group show ''Unis Vert l'Intemporel''. The exhibition brings together the Queen Elizabeth Hotel in Montreal, the hotel's artifacts to be recycled into artworks and several renowned artists such as Gilles Vigneault, Olivier Martineau and Don Darby.
  • For the U.V.A. project I wanted to create a world of fantasy around the Queen, I imagined Elisabeth in a Hawaiian Garden of Eden, playing with the taste of freedom. I chose as artifacts 2 mirrors edged with gold ornaments, and I created 2 photographic works from my place of residence at the time, Kauai, Hawaii. It is through the invigorating jungle of Henna, north of Kauai, a place renowned as one of the most majestic and paradisiacal places in the world, that the idea matured. With the help of my 2 accomplices, Marc époux and Christine muse, that I made and imagined my 2 future works, "Queen's Fantasy" and "How could she believe in it".

*Artistic approach Imperceptible presence Sabrina Clitandre, M.A., art historian. 2008 To appreciate Brigitte Thériault's photographic works is to share with her the privileged moments she has captured. Thanks to her visual tact, she looks at nature and humanizes it through gentle and accurate interventions. The artist's metamorphosed natures offer a focal point where the best of nature and human ingenuity converge. Brigitte Thériault has an instinctive mastery of the laws of harmonious composition. She is fond of logical arrangement, the repetition of certain elements that allows for visual harmony. Thériault commits herself in a photographic space where nature is imbued with poetry. Michaël Lachance, Canadian art critic, essayist. 2015 As an artist-photographer divided between two strong currents in photography, Brigitte Thériault claims to be both a neo-pictorialist artist-photographer and a creative photographer. Without opposing the colour approach to creative photography, the Canadian photographer does not reduce her field of action to a discourse on photography. An impressionist artist, she submits her photographic eye to the film, she cultivates raw instinct. As a globetrotter, she is ingenious in bringing out the beauty of a landscape, of a fleeting moment taken on the sly, her work is resolutely aesthetic, she approaches photography like a painting. She paints with light while dipping her images in a translucency that blurs reality, she covers it with an illusory veil that transgresses objectivity and gives the artist's work an aesthetic facture that brings her closer to Gyula Halasz (Brassai). For Brigitte Thériault, photography translates a dreamlike utopia, like a Portuguese saudade, a place of sweet and nostalgic happiness. This thirst for untamed freedom, this quest for the sublime and ideal, so dear to romantic spirits, is revealed in her "Vivia" and "Pastel" series, two series that oppose light and darkness, lost paradise and realism, languor and happiness, solitude and family. What is more, the sublimated nature, these great desert spaces, these winter clouds on summer impression, these blurred added to increase or disguise reality, give to see works that constantly defy beauty, it borrows from nature by beam, by flash, without ever perverting it. I settle in the north of the island of Kauai with my husband and our three children aged 8, 10 and 13 years old at the time. The photo story of this epic is told on the blog of this website. I am taking this commercial break to focus more on his art photography as well as on the creation of "photo-design". Made with my photos of Hawaiian vegetation, and printed on various textiles, I make floral designs, print on beautiful fabrics, and then create bags, cushions etc. BTBAG is launched in the fall of 2017. https://www.etsy.com/fr/shop/BTBAG *Summer 2014- star host Josey Arsenault of Quebec City's FM93 station receives Brigitte during her show "Josey's World" .
